SOMETHING WORTH WALKING FOR is John Wilmut’s account of his walk from Lands End to John O’Groats in the summer of 2012. It was in support of the education work being funded by Christian Aid in poor countries.
The book is built around the blog that John wrote during the walk, giving an account of each day as it happened. He’s included a detailed description of his preparation, details of his route and the accommodation he used, the equipment he took and the costs of the walk. The book includes over 250 photographs and John gives access to his GPS fi les so that you can plot his route on your own maps. He writes very frankly of those aspects of the walk that worked well, those aspects that did not and what he learned from the experience. This book will inspire and inform your dreams of similar exploits or your plans for your own longdistance walks. It is humorous as well as informative and it acknowledges the help that John, a retired educationist, had in preparing for and doing the walk. John Wilmut’s commitment to the walk came from his experiences in a number of developing countries, working to promote wider learning opportunities for all children. The work of Christian Aid in Sierra Leone was a principal focus for John’s fundraising and the book provides much information from that country and elsewhere. The book is dedicated to all the children in need of education in all the countries where opportunities are limited by poverty. Proceeds from the sale of this book will go to Christian Aid. If you enjoy this book you may want to give your personal support to the work of Christian Aid or other agencies in improving educational provision for poor children. |
