The Battle of Britain marked a turning point in the nation’s history. It offered an outstanding example of personal bravery and it brought together members of the Commonwealth, together with pilots from several European countries which had been overrun in the opening phases of the Second World War. All of whom were none the less determined to join what was in effect a fight for freedom.
