Schools: purpose and process
The school examination system is based on a fundamental error. It assesses a student’s capacity in specialist subjects but fails to assess their general education, the skills and knowledge needed by everyone.
Schools fair and free
If independent schools do better than state schools then all schools should be independent (within the context of social justice). They should secure their income from the full cover vouchers provided by the parents of their pupils.
Education after 18
A university awarding higher grades may enhance its status. If English universities are to deserve a high reputation the setting of objectives for degree courses, the assessment of results and the classification of degrees must be nationally determined.
